Emergency Cases

Emergency Cases Department

The Emergency Department (ED) of Iatriko Psychikou constitutes the first line for the immediate reception, evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with urgent and/or acute health problems. It operates continuously, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no appointment required. Access is easy for pedestrians and vehicles, and the ED is located on the ground floor of the Clinic.

The Department is staffed by experienced physicians of all core specialties, highly trained nurses, and specialized paramedical staff. An advanced triage system is implemented, ensuring immediate and effective care in accordance with international safety protocols.

The ED manages:

  • Life-threatening emergencies requiring stabilization (trauma, acute medical or surgical events)
  • Conditions requiring immediate medical intervention and potential admission
  • Patients requiring short-term monitoring before a decision is made for discharge or hospitalization
  • Non-urgent cases that nevertheless require further diagnostic evaluation and possible admission
  • Minor procedures (surgical, orthopedic)
  • Patients who, following the necessary examination, are discharged with clear medical instructions
Infrastructure and equipment
  • The Department features autonomous and fully equipped reception, waiting, triage, diagnosis, and short-term hospitalization areas. It also maintains two fully equipped ambulances for patient transport, available on a 24-hour basis.

Services

  • Clinical examination by physicians of all specialties
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG), measuring and monitoring of vital signs
  • Hematological, biochemical examinations, analyses of biological fluids and smears
  • Pulmonary screening – spirometry
  • Catheterizations (urinary catheter, nasogastric tube)
  • Minor procedures

Support Units

The ED is fully supported by the Biopathology laboratories (hematology, biochemistry, cultures) and the Imaging Departments of the Clinic (radiology, ultrasonography, Holter monitoring, CT and MRI scans, hemodynamic laboratory, angiographer), which operate on a 24-hour basis, ensuring immediate and comprehensive diagnostic coverage.

Following the initial management of the acute problem, and depending on the nature and severity of the condition, the patient is either admitted to the Clinic or discharged after being given the necessary instructions.
