The right bike helmet and safety tips for children

The use of a protective helmet is recommended in many of the favorite activities of children and adolescents.

This is usually known in advance and it is a big mistake to participate in them without the right one for each one. The risk of serious injury to the neck, head, skull and brain is reduced or even eliminated when the correct specifications are met regarding the type of helmet and the conditions of its use.

A helmet is essential in cycling, for a child who is a passenger on a motorcycle, in water sports, in skating, in martial arts and in general anywhere speed and intense forces will be developed. In our time, every activity carried out by an official body recommends the appropriate helmet that parents must purchase and this should be respected.

The helmet is part of the basic equipment of the activity and is designed for everything. This is especially true in cycling. Underestimating these specifications can lead to an injury that could be foreseen. A worn or damaged helmet should not be used.

Once the appropriate helmet has been selected, it should be worn in the correct way.

It should of course be the right size so that it hugs the head properly. It should be above eye level, not obstruct breathing and securely fastened in front and behind the ears. Cost plays a role, but the most expensive is not always the best.

The child should not wear a helmet in activities that are not required, because it can be caught in a dangerous place, e.g. from a tree.

After a hit, the helmet should be checked to see if it is good and stable and, if not, replaced.

It is good to train children in the use of helmets where necessary because this way they become responsible and sensitive regarding their safety. The use of a helmet does not negate the observance of other rules such as paying attention to speed, respecting pedestrians, other road users, drivers, cyclists, etc.

The lack of this respect is the cause of accidents.

Thus, children become responsible adults who do not disregard the rules and do not put themselves and others at serious risk to their physical integrity and life.

Craniocephalic injuries and their serious consequences in children and adults can be avoided by always using the appropriate helmet.
