Admission Information
Admission
Your admission may be scheduled or an emergency. On arrival at the clinic, you will be welcomed by the reception midwife, who will accompany you to the Labour and Delivery Unit. There, you will undergo cardiotocographic monitoring. In addition to your midwife and physician, a hospital neonatologist will also attend the birth to examine your newborn immediately.
Whether you have a vaginal birth or a caesarean section, you will receive support to hold your baby and have skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth so that you can breastfeed.
The Admissions Office staff will handle your admission and will ask you to:

Hospital Stay
After delivery, you will remain in the recovery area for safety reasons before being transferred to your room in the Maternity Clinic.
Paediatricians and nursing staff provide continuous care for your newborn, 24 hours a day. The clinic’s neonatologist–paediatrician will update you daily on your baby’s health.
- Your meals are planned to meet your needs during the postnatal period.
- All clinic areas and rooms have central air conditioning. Please avoid opening the windows so that the system can operate correctly.
- Money and valuables should not be kept in patient rooms. Please hand them to the hospital’s Security staff for safekeeping, as the clinic accepts no responsibility for any loss.
Newborns are examined daily by the department’s neonatologist, after which parents are updated on their progress.
The clinic’s neonatologists also hold scheduled seminars for small groups of mothers, providing useful general information about newborn care.
The midwife in charge of the Neonatal Department also demonstrates how to bathe and care for a newborn every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 21:00.
At the Maternity Clinic, we follow the policy established by the World Health Organization (WHO), with the aim of achieving Baby-Friendly Hospital status. Our philosophy is based on continuous contact between mother and newborn and on encouraging breastfeeding immediately, starting in the delivery room.
You can stay in the same room as your newborn (rooming-in), enjoying every moment together with the care and support of our nursing staff. Your baby remains in your room, with all the necessary supplies in their cot (sleepsuits, small towels, nappies and baby wipes).
For mothers whose newborn is being cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and wherever necessary, a hospital-grade breast pump is available to help establish and maintain milk production and breastfeeding.
NICU visiting hours 12:30-13:00 & 19:00-19:30.
During your stay at the Maternity Clinic, you can attend an informative Breastfeeding & Newborn Care Seminar, where our specialised midwives will demonstrate how to care for and bathe your baby, teach breastfeeding techniques and answer any questions you may have.

Discharge
At European Interbalkan Medical Center, care does not end when you leave the clinic. We provide guidance, breastfeeding support and useful advice for the first days with your newborn, so that you can feel confident and at ease in your new role.
Because motherhood is more than a moment. It is a whole journey, and we are here beside you!
Your newborn’s birth must be registered within 10 days of the date of birth.
Birth registrations are completed electronically by the clinic’s administrative office, Monday to Friday, 10:00-13:00, during your stay in the maternity unit. The declaration is sent electronically to the Pylaia Registry Office.
The following are required to prepare the birth declaration:
• Parents’ identity cards or passports, with one of the two parents attending in person.
• An IBAN for an account in which the mother is the account holder or a joint account holder (for the birth allowance application).
Please take particular care to ensure that the details provided on admission are correct, as they are used to register your newborn’s birth. Any errors may cause administrative difficulties.
When you leave the clinic, your baby will be handed over only to their mother. You will sign a dedicated form confirming receipt of your baby and receive your newborn with their identification wristband still on, together with the health booklet that you should always bring to paediatric appointments.
We recommend transporting your newborn in a suitable infant car seat or pram.
- To receive your own or your newborn’s test results, or have them sent to you, please submit an application on the day of discharge to the Medical Records Department, located in the Patient Accounts Office on the mezzanine.
- The hospital retains your confidential medical records. A copy is provided only to the person concerned or a legally authorised representative.
- Your newborn can be photographed by an affiliated photographer using special lens filters, always with your consent.
