Anxiety or Depression? What do I have? Can I have both?

A question that certainly often concerns us when we are not psychologically ‘down’.

First of all, let’s say that depression is completely different from simply feeling sad sometimes.

In simple sadness, someone can function well or almost well in their daily lives, while the symptoms are not as persistent and severe as in clinical depression, where:

  • sadness is permanent and daily
  • there are changes in sleep, appetite
  • psychosomatic symptoms appear
  • one loses interest in the everyday things that please him/her

On the other hand, the anxiety that we all experience from time to time about specific issues in our daily lives, when it begins to become permanent, daily, for small and large things, when it begins to monopolize our thoughts, then this too takes on a pathological entity and if we do not deal with it, it can have serious consequences for both our psychological and physical health.

Anxiety and depression often go hand in hand!

Feeling constantly sad can make you anxious, and worrying about everything all the time can make you depressed.

Other times, however, they may not coexist and are completely separate entities!

Whether they coexist or not, anxiety and depression can be treated!

Most people benefit greatly from medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of both.

What you need to do is recognize it and say to yourself “I am not who I used to be, I need to get help to start enjoying my life again, because I deserve it!”
