“Medical Adoption” Program

With a successful 40-year track record in healthcare, Athens Medical Group continues to invest steadily in development, education and sustainable operations, providing medical services of the highest standard. Making a meaningful contribution to society is central to its mission.

Social awareness and humanitarianism, values that have characterized the founder and Chairman of Athens Medical Group, Dr. George Apostolopoulos, from the very beginning, formed the foundation of a multifaceted Corporate Social Responsibility Program. A program that places people, society, our country and the world at its heart.

As part of this mission, the “Medical Adoption” program has been consistently implemented. This meaningful initiative began with the motto often expressed by the Chairman of Athens Medical Group: “All children are our children.”

The Medical Adoption program was established to meet all the healthcare needs of children living in remote and border regions. Over the years, it has evolved to include benefits such as free childbirth services and free medical care for all residents of these areas. Today, the program continues to expand, reaching more and more areas of our country, as well as Greeks living abroad.

March 2025 – Imbros, Tenedos & Ecumenical Patriarchate

The most recent and particularly significant expansion of the program took place in March 2025, with the adoption of the Greek residents of Imbros and Tenedos, as well as the entire staff of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Among other benefits, the program includes a very wide range of free primary and secondary healthcare services through the Group’s network of clinics in Athens and Thessaloniki.

The CEO of Athens Medical Group, Dr. Vassilis G. Apostolopoulos, emphasized: “It is with deep emotion and respect that I stand here today, at the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the eternal beacon of Orthodoxy and Hellenism. It is a great honor for me personally, and for the entire Athens Medical Group, to support the work of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew by offering practical assistance to the Greek residents of Imbros and Tenedos and the staff of the Patriarchate.

As Athens Medical Group celebrates 40 years of contribution to healthcare in Greece and worldwide, guided by a sense of social responsibility and love for our roots, we are committed to providing high-quality medical care and support to all those in need. This initiative is more than an act of giving; it is a profound expression of respect and solidarity with the historic heartlands of Hellenism and the valuable work they carry out.”

June 2018 – Orestiada - Samothrace

In June 2018, the program expanded to the border villages of the Municipality of Orestiada and to Samothrace, the northernmost island of the Aegean, which has “stood guard at Thermopylae” since ancient times.

In addition to ongoing free healthcare for residents, a second preventive medicine program was implemented. With the participation of the Group’s Mobile Unit and a team of volunteer physicians representing ten specialties, comprehensive diagnostic and clinical examinations were provided to all the island’s residents.
