The Athens Medical Group stands by the Greek diaspora in Ukraine

Athens, March 2, 2022 – The Athens Medical Association in its many years of history has repeatedly provided humanitarian and medical assistance to war zones and suffering populations.

Today, when unfortunately the war in our wider region is escalating at a great cost in human lives, including a significant number of Greek expatriates, our Association has decided to once again provide its presence.

Already since Thursday (24.02) it has placed the Group’s two pediatric hospitals in Athens and Thessaloniki, Athens Pediatric Center (Marousi) and The Pediatric Clinic of the Inter-Balkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki, with a relevant letter, at the disposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the free care and hospitalization of children of our expatriates who need health services.

Following the escalation of the war and the refugee wave, and given that Romania is a major host country for Greek refugees, it also decided to make available to the Ministry – through a letter to the Greek Embassy in Bucharest – the three medical centers of the Group operating in Romania under the umbrella of the subsidiary Medsana SRL:

  1. Medsana Cotroceni Clinic, Dr. Nanu Muscel st. nr.12, sector 5, Bucharest
  2. Medsana Primaverii Clinic, Primaverii nr.9 Bd., sector 1, Bucharest
  3. Medsana Ploiesti Clinic, Gheorge Grigore Cantacuzino st., nr 193, Ploiesti

These centers will provide any medical assistance and care at a primary level free of charge and if the need for hospitalization arises, this will also be carried out, free of charge, at the Diabalkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki.

The provision of medical and humanitarian aid in war situations is part of the history of the Athens Medical Group. It is recalled that in 1999 it carried out a major humanitarian mission in the then Yugoslavia with the central slogan “All children, our children” offering medical care to child victims of war from both warring sides. This specific action was awarded by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Announcing the initiative, the Group’s CEO, Dr. Vasilis Apostolopoulos, stated: “The concept of giving and being present in difficult times is an integral part of the DNA of the Group and our family. As of now, we are standing practically next to the suffering Greek community in Ukraine in these critical moments, while, in addition to the above, I personally commit to leading a medical and humanitarian mission to the region, as soon as we are allowed to.”
